Meet SV Ruby: Our trusted vessel
Discover what makes Sailboat Ruby special, from her reliable build to her continuous upgrades. Learn why she's the perfect companion for our upcoming adventures along the US East Coast and beyond.

The heart of our journey: Sailboat Ruby
Sailboat Ruby is a meticulously maintained 1984 Catalina 30, a vessel that Capt. Bill has lovingly upgraded over his 26+ years as her owner. In recent seasons, she has installed extensive upgrades, especially in her electronics, ensuring she's ready for any adventure. Ruby is more than just a boat; she's a testament to dedication and preparation for the open seas.

Why we love the Catalina 30
The Catalina 30 is often called the "Chevy Impala" of small production cruising sailboats, a realistic analogy given its widespread popularity and reliability. It holds the record as the number one full-sized sailboat ever produced by volume, with over 7,000 hulls built between 1976 and 2005. This widespread presence means you'll find C30s in nearly every port, marina, or boatyard across the US, and many are still actively sailing!

A legacy of reliability and community
The abundance of C30s and Catalina sailboats has fostered a vast aftermarket for gear, products, parts, and accessories, making maintenance and upgrades accessible. Moreover, the C30 boasts the largest and most active owner and user groups, providing an invaluable community for support and shared experiences. Her impressive durability and performance record further cement her reputation and popularity among sailors.
Future adventures with Ruby
Owning SV Ruby for 28 years, Capt. Bill has extensively sailed her across New England, primarily in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Now retired, he dreams and plans on Sailing SV Ruby to more distant shores. Our plans include cruising up and down the US Atlantic East Coast, from our home port in Boston, MA (Winthrop, MA YC), all the way to Florida—exploring Key West, both the east and west coasts of Florida, the Bahamas, and potentially even further! We're particularly excited to navigate and cruise the Intracoastal Waterway.
